Double Rant-Dakota Days: Football Game

The (+) Rant

Dear USD students,

First of all, I’d like to congratulate everyone for surviving Dakota Days week and all of the events that took place.

On Saturday, the Coyote football team put on one hell of a show, winning USD’s first Missouri Valley Conference game and recording a hard-fought victory for Dakota Days.

I’d like to give a shout out to those great fans who stayed the duration of the game.  The DakotaDome was loud, the Coyotes were fired up and we got to witness university history Saturday.

You exemplify exactly what a great leader, fan and Coyote is for those in the stands.  I hope to see you all there again this Saturday when the Coyotes take on the Indiana State Sycamores – chop those trees!

Keep up the great work, and keep setting an example of what it truly means to be devoted and involved in your university.

Sincerely,

A proud Coyote,

Rachelle Norberg

The (-) Rant

Dear USD officials in charge of student seating,

Saturday’s football match-up against Missouri State was an incredible  way to build student support of USD athletics — unless you were one of the sad sacks made to sit on the permanent seating side of the DakotaDome.

After joining Coyote Crazies earlier in the week, the three of us were hyped to go to the game until we got  there and realized just how sad the overflow student seating is. There were maybe 20 to 25 students forced into this peripheral seating section, and it is majorly depressing being made to watch from a distance the fun and excitement of the student section across the field.

We get the need to have a space for overflow, but there was undoubtedly room available in the student section stands to not segregate the students.

Not to mention the field security Nazis who were on total power trips keeping students stuck on the permanent seating side, but could provide no rational reason why   students couldn’t cross over to join their peers.

Sincerely,

Megan Card, Emily Niebrugge and Trent Opstedahl
