The Rant: Enjoy landscape while you can
Dear facilities management,
I’d like to change things up and rant about something positive at the University of South Dakota for once.
This campus is beautiful.
As the transition from summer to fall draws to completion, and I walk to and from class, it’s hard not to notice the gorgeous aesthetics of USD’s campus.
The well-groomed, deep green lawns, the plethora of healthy trees and now a fresh layer of newly fallen autumn leaves are just some of the eye candy that can go unappreciated in the everyday hustle and bustle.
Combined with some nice looking buildings, USD’s campus makes for some serious eye candy. Giving off almost a stereotypical college campus aurora.
I am of course talking specifically about the main campus; I can’t blame grounds keepers for the constantly eroding grassy areas around North Complex that seem all but lost.
So, I give a tip of the hat, Stephen Colbert style, to the grounds and facilities management here at USD. Thanks for keeping our campus looking spick and span as long as it possibly can.
However, we know all too well come December or January, maintaining any part of the grounds is a near impossibility. So, enjoy this wonderful landscape while you can fellow students, it’s going to be gone in a matter of months.
Sincerely,
Austin Ashlock
