The Rant: Professors should utilize D2L

Dear professors,

Last week was midterms week, or the halfway point for the semester. Most students had tests that were worth a chunk of their grade and should know by now what they got. There is this amazing system on the myU portal called D2L, and apparently professors have forgotten to use it.

Maybe it is only a handful of professors that don’t use this system, but it was created for a reason, to show students where they stand in terms of grades. I know of students who have professors who use the system, however they do not know where their grades stand because professors fail to put that information in.

Not only is this frustrating to students, it in no way helps them, because they are unaware of the progress they are making. I personally believe students deserve to know where they stand; they are paying for their education after all.

The professors are paid to educate students and make sure they are learning the information. If students test and fail, they need to know what they are missing and shouldn’t they have the right to know? The fact of the matter is, we are all adults here, and our purpose as students is to learn, and a part of learning is seeing your mistakes and fixing/learning from them.

Sincerely,

Katie McGuire
