Key matchups against SDSU
Kevin Earl vs. R.C. Kilgore
Earl now has six starts under his belt and has a three-game winning streak and losing streak to show for it. Kilgore, who leads the Missouri Valley Conference with 105 tackles will have to be all over the field Saturday. Don’t be surprised to see him try and take away Earl’s under routes over the middle.
Donovan has gone from redshirting, to taking off his redshirt, to leading the team in receiving yards, all in his first season. Wright, a senior, will likely be shadowing USD’s big play receiver all afternoon.
Devin Taverna vs. Zach Zenner
Zenner had over 2,000 yards rushing last season and is right on par with last year’s pace. Taverna, USD’s leading tackler, will not only be responsible for slowing down SDSU’s passing game but also limiting Zenner’s big runs.
Tyler Starr vs. Bryan Witzmann
Starr leads the MVC in sacks with nine and is only one sack away from breaking USD’s all-time record with 27. Witzmann is battle tested, as a four-year starter for the Jacks’ high-powered offense. Whomever wins this one-on-one matchup will have a big edge Saturday.
