Winter break sports recap
The men’s and women’s basketball and swimming and diving teams were busy during winter break, with all four teams competing throughout the three week break.
The Coyote men’s basketball team lost to Morehead State Dec. 19, with a score of 120-83. The team then had a break until Dec. 29, when they lost to Youngstown State 85-59. The team then kicked off a five-game win-streak Jan. 2, beating Cal State Northridge 76-75. That game was followed with wins against Iowa Wesleyan Jan. 4 86-52, Denver Jan. 11 59-54, IUPUI Jan. 16 69-57 and Fort Wayne Jan. 18 75-61.
The men are currently 8-9 on the season and 3-0 in the Summit League. The men’s next game will be Jan. 23 at Western Illinois.
As for the women’s basketball team, they started winter break with a win over College of St. Mary Dec. 19 76-48. They lost to Nebraska Dec. 21 87043, beat Valparaiso Dec. 31 81-70, beat Cleveland State Jan. 4 74-70, lost to Denver Jan. 12 91-84, lost to IUPUI Jan. 16 80-59 and lost to IPFW Jan. 18 96-78.
The women are currently 9-9 overall and 0-3 in the Summit League. The women’s next game will be Jan. 23 against Western Illinois at the DakotaDome.
The men’s and women’s swimming and diving team competed Jan. 11 at South Dakota State, with the women losing 186-107 and the men losing 177-118. The team competed at Morningside Jan. 17, with the women winning 142-40 and the men winning 130-66. The team hosted Western Illinois Jan. 19, with the women winning 208-82 and the men winning 158-142.
The women are now 3-8 in dual meets, while the men are 2-5. The team will head to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Minnesota Challenge Feb. 7-8, before wrapping up their season with the Summit League Championships and NCAA Zone Championships.
