Advice column: Writer looking to help ‘anyone who is struggling’
Timber Hawkeye once said, “Let your light shine bright so that others can see their way out of the dark.” Hawkeye’s words of encouragement is one of my personal favorites as it keeps me going on days when I feel like I’m in the dark myself.
My name is Ashley, I am a first-year here at USD, and I would like to help you find your way out of whatever shade of darkness you may be in through the means of an advice column.
Bullies, depression, self-injury, eating disorders, suicidal thoughts. You name it, I’ve probably dealt with it at some point in the past. But over the last couple of years, with the help and inspiration of a couple of very close friends and strong belief in my faith, I have been able to overcome much of the darkness which has been looming over me.
I am now a volunteer at the Helpline Center in Sioux Falls, raising awareness about teen suicide and I’m also a member of Lost and Found and H.E.L.P at USD. When I first heard about The Volante, I knew this was my chance to fulfill my dream of having an advice column to help others.
This column is dedicated to you, the students of USD. I want to help anyone who is struggling in any capacity by sharing what I have learned over the years with each of you. This column will work just like a regular advice column. You will be able to send in anonymous letters via our drop box.
I hope that all of you who are struggling or going through a tough time in your life will take advantage of this up and coming opportunity!
