Huggins: Broncos and Seahawks likely to face-off again in Super Bowl XLIX

On Sept. 28, the Broncos and Seahawks played each other for the first time since February. And there’s a pretty good chance we could see these two teams face off again in Super Bowl XLIX.

The difference between this regular season matchup and the Super Bowl was that this game was actually competitive.

In last year’s Super Bowl, the Seahawks were clearly the better team as they cruised past the Broncos with a score of 43-8.

It was a disappointment to watch considering the game featured one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time. How would Peyton Manning respond after getting blown out in the biggest game of any NFL player’s career?

Unfortunately, the Broncos lost again, but they were able to make a furious comeback by scoring 17 points in the second half and forcing the game to go into overtime.

According to VegasInsider.com the Broncos and the Seahawks are the favorites to go back to the Super Bowl. The Broncos at 5/1 and the Seahawks at 4/1.

There are three reasons I think these two teams will face each other yet again in Super Bowl XLIX:

  1. Peyton Manning. Manning is going to go down as one of the greatest players to ever put on an NFL uniform. He is a five-time NFL MVP and has taken two different teams to a Super Bowl. When he arrived in Denver, everyone knew he would give the Broncos a chance to compete for a title.
  1. Denver’s defense has made some much needed upgrades. They were able to acquire DeMarcus Ware, the former defensive end of the Cowboys, who will help the Broncos with their pass rush. The second acquisition was Aquib Talib, the former defensive back of the New England Patriots. And lastly, T.J. Ward  — the former safety for the Cleveland Browns.
  1. Seattle’s balanced attack on both sides of the ball. Russell Wilson is a great quarterback, and along with Marshawn Lynch, they are able to score every time Seattle has the ball.

According to Matt Appell, contributor for Bleacher Report, Wilson has all the talent Seattle is looking for in a quarterback.

“Wilson is a perfect complement to the run-first offense in Seattle, using his legs when he needs to, and putting up more than respectable numbers through the air despite what most would consider to be not much of a receiving corps this year,” he said.

Wilson is able to make plays when he needs and it helps put his team in position to win the game.

As great as the offense may be, it might be the defense that allows the Seahawks to get back to the Super Bowl. This defense features one of the best cornerbacks in the game in Richard Sherman, and it held Manning’s offense to eight points in the Super Bowl.

The Broncos would see this as a revenge game if they were able to beat the Seahawks in the next Super Bowl.

The Broncos have now been beat twice by the Seahawks and would love nothing more than beating them in the biggest game in the NFL.
