Fourth annual Bras for a Cause slated for Oct. 26
A competition that allows participants to decorate undergarments is soon to take hold in Yankton, and all for a good cause.
The fourth annual Bras for a Cause, which gives participants the chance to decorate bras to honor those affected by breast cancer, will take place Oct. 26 in Yankton, just as Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to an end.
“We wanted to raise money, and recognize those in the area who have battled cancer,” event coordinator Kris Hacecky said. “This event is a fun way to wrap up Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and support other organizations helping patrons of our community battle cancer.”
Contestants are asked to bring a decorated bra to the Kozy Inn Bar, which is located on Highway 50, five miles west of Yankton, between 2 and 4 p.m. Registration is $5 per bra, and each participant is allowed to enter up to five bras. The event is open to the public.
If a person wanting to enter the event is unable to attend, Hacecky said they may drop off their decorated bra earlier.
Several cancer survivors will judge the competition. Gift baskets from area businesses will be awarded to top winners. The winners will be announced at 5 p.m., and contestants do not have to be present to win.
In the event’s fourth year, Hacecky always has the event on the last Sunday of October, especially in honor of her friends who have breast cancer.
“Since breast cancer is a serious thing, it’s a fun note to end the month on,” Hacecky said.
Last year, there were around 15 bras entered into the contest, Hacecky said. People don’t have to decorate a bra, and may support the cause by merely attending the event.
This year, Hacecky has received additional baskets from businesses, and she plans to raffle them off.
The proceeds from the event will go to Team Hope, which supports local families and friends affected by cancer.
