Food-distribution Warehouse Closing In Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Michigan-based SpartanNash is planning to close its food-distribution warehouse in Rapid City on April 4.

Company spokeswoman Meredith Gremel told the Rapid City Journal ( ) that most of the 49 workers there will lose their jobs.

Operations at the western South Dakota warehouse will be consolidated in distribution centers in Fargo, North Dakota, and Omaha, Nebraska. Gremel says that will save the company money and better serve customers.

SpartanNash owns the Family Thrift store chain and the Prairie Market store in Rapid City.

Local and state officials plan to meet with warehouse workers next week and try to help them connect with potential employers.
