Pierre To Double Spending On Infrastructure Projects In 2015
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — After a banner year of construction projects in 2014, city officials in Pierre are looking to do even more in 2015.
The city last year spent $8.3 million on construction projects. This year, scheduled projects total $16.5 million. They include a $4.6 million project to upgrade infrastructure on several streets.
Pierre’s sales tax revenue last year jumped nearly 5 ½ percent. City Commissioner Jamie Huizenga tells the Capital Journal ( ) that some planned projects this year also include funding sources other than just city funds.
For example, a $2 million airport road project includes state money, and a $1 million upgrade at the Hyde Stadium baseball park will include private funds.
Commissioner Steve Harding says “the future is very bright for development” in Pierre.
