Sioux Falls City Council Approves More Money For New Pool

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The Sioux Falls City Council has approved spending more money on a new indoor aquatics center.

The project was to cost $19.8 million, but the estimate increased due to rising construction costs and several changes to the plan including adding a therapy pool for veterans at the nearby VA Medical Center.

Council members on Tuesday voted 7-1 to push the project cost to $23.7 million. Most of the additional money likely will come from money leftover in last year’s city budget.

Councilman Kermit Staggers cast the lone dissenting vote, questioning why the project cost has risen so much.

The City Council approved the initial price tag after voters last April said they wanted to replace the outdoor pool at the city’s Spellerberg Park.
