Rapid City Libraries Offering Ways To Reduce Fines

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — The Rapid City Public Library is offering cardholders the chance to have fees forgiven in exchange for donations to a local food pantry.

According to a press release, adults can have fines reduced by $5 per pound of food donated. Children 15 and under can whittle their fines down by $1 for every 20 minutes of reading.

Food donations will benefit the Church Response Food Pantry and should be dropped off at the downtown library. The Rapid City Journal ( ) reports young cardholders who wish to reduce fines by reading can either visit the downtown location or General Beadle School.

The offer stands until Saturday, Feb. 21.
