South Dakota Lawmakers To Discuss Transportation, Gun Bills
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Lawmakers return to Pierre Tuesday after a long weekend and will discuss plans to fund transportation projects and let people carry concealed pistols without a permit.
The House State Affairs Committee will debate raising roughly $50 million for road and bridge funding. A separate House committee has also reviewed the proposal. The Senate has already approved its version of the plan, so the House’s passage would set up negotiations for what’s likely the most hotly debated issue of the session.
In the Senate, the Judiciary Committee will discuss a proposal to make it legal to carry a concealed pistol without a permit in South Dakota. The plan removes the requirement for a concealed pistol permit from state law and eliminates penalties for carrying without a permit.
