Man Who Locked Himself At SD Hotel Taken To State Prison

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — A man who locked himself at an Aberdeen hotel room for more than 14 hours has been taken to the state penitentiary on a parole detainer.

The Aberdeen American News reports that 37-year-old Gregory Two Hearts is now at the corrections facility in Sioux Falls. He was arrested Wednesday night after authorities used tear gas to force him out of the room.

No one was hurt during the incident, which forced players and fans of the state Class B basketball tournament who had planned to stay there to find other accommodations.

Aberdeen Police have said Two Hearts was wanted in connection with local crimes and had a handgun during the standoff.

Penitentiary records show Two Hearts was sentenced in 1999 to 15 years in prison for a first-degree robbery charge. He was first eligible for parole in 2012.
