Passenger Boardings At Pierre Airport Almost At Record Low

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The airport in Pierre tallied near-record low passenger boardings in February.

KCCR-AM reports that total enplanements for the flights to Denver and Minneapolis offered by Great Lakes Airlines were 543. That’s the second lowest passenger boarding mark for a February since 1978.

The airport saw 1,130 passengers during the first two months of 2015, almost 300 fewer compared to the same period in 2014.

Pierre’s passenger boardings have been hampered by canceled flights from Great Lakes Airlines, which has struggled at times to meet the new federal regulations.

Mike Isaacs is the airport’s manager. He says 66 percent of flights were considered on-time in February, while 13 percent of flights were cancelled. Isaacs adds that most cancellations weren’t weather related.

The on-time and cancellation rates are below FAA standards.
