Police: Man Tried To Trick SD Doctor Into Giving Him Drug

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a Louisiana man has been arrested after he tried to trick a South Dakota doctor into giving a specific prescription drug.

Sioux Falls Police spokesman Sam Clemens says 60-year-old Jessie Mayeaux complained about chest pain at Avera Heart Hospital Monday night. Mayeaux then mentioned several medications that he was allergic to, but said he could take the painkiller Dilaudid.

Clemens says Mayeaux’s specific request raised a red flag with the doctor. Hospital staff then realized that Mayeaux had checked in with a fake name.

Police were called to the hospital and Mayeaux told police he used the false name because his identity had been stolen and believed someone was after him.

Mayeaux, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, was arrested on a charge of trying to obtain controlled substance by misrepresentation.
