Mayoral Race In Platte To Be Decided By Chance After Tie

PLATTE, S.D. (AP) — Platte’s next mayor will be determined by the luck of the draw.

Incumbent Mayor Rick Gustad and challenger Steve Christensen split the vote in the April 14 election.

The Daily Republic newspaper reports ( ) that on Thursday they’ll choose between a high-card draw and a high-roll with dice to determine the winner of the two-year term.

Gustad serves as Platte’s fire chief. Steve Christensen is a former police chief. They ran against one another for mayor in 2013, with Gustad winning by just six votes.
