Thune Among Speakers At Walter Conahan’s Sioux Falls Funeral
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — U.S. Sen. John Thune and former U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary John Hamre are among those who will pay tribute to Walter Conahan at his funeral Saturday in Sioux Falls.
Conahan died April 18 at age 87 and was a senior staff member in the federal government for 25 years, the first executive director of the South Dakota State University Foundation and a three-term South Dakota state senator from Brookings County.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard has ordered flags at the Capitol in Pierre to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday. Conahan’s funeral starts at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls.
Others paying tribute to Conahan will be his daughter, Christy Green, former SDSU alumni director VJ Smith and retired journalists Randell Beck and Jack Marsh.
