Company Waits For OK To Transform Ex-Yankton Post Office

YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — The company that plans to transform the former Yankton post office into residential and commercial space is waiting for a final approval from federal officials to be able to begin construction.

Monte Froehlich is president and managing broker of the real estate management company U.S. Property. He tells the Yankton Daily Press and Dakotan ( ) that the company is within a couple of months of kicking off the building’s remodeling.

The company must ask the National Park Service to approve the proposed changes to the old post office because the building is part of the National Register of Historic Places.

The company is planning to transform the inside of the early 1900s building into 21 apartments and one commercial space on the main level, possibly a restaurant or coffee shop.
