Judge: Former State Official Can Testify In Bosworth Trial

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota judge says he will allow a former state official to testify in the trial of a former U.S. Senate candidate accused of election law violations.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the trial of Annette Bosworth, a Sioux Falls doctor who has pleaded not guilty to a dozen felony counts. Bosworth lost the June 2014 Republican primary with 6 percent of the vote and was charged the following day.

A pretrial hearing in the case was held Friday. KCCR-AM reports that Judge John Brown denied a request by Bosworth’s attorneys to scrap testimony from former Secretary of State Chris Nelson, but the judge will limit the scope of his presentation.

Testimony in the case is expected to begin Wednesday.
