Jury Deliberates In Ex-Senate Candidate’s Election Law Trial

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Jurors have begun deliberating in the election law trial of former South Dakota U.S. Senate candidate Annette Bosworth.

Bosworth’s trial resumed Wednesday after a break for the weekend. The case went to the jury around 5 p.m. after closing arguments.

The Sioux Falls physician is accused of election law violations that include being out of the country when her petitions to get on the ballot say she was gathering signatures. Bosworth, who lost the 2014 Republican U.S. Senate primary, has admitted she was abroad at that time.

Under state law, the person circulating petitions must witness the signings from registered voters. Bosworth’s defense says she made a mistake by listening to advice from her former attorney.

Prosecutors argue Bosworth is lying and say jurors should convict her to maintain the integrity of elections.
