Jury Has Verdict In Ex-Senate Candidate’s Election Law Trial
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Jurors have reached a verdict in the election law trial of former South Dakota U.S. Senate candidate Annette Bosworth.
The case went to the jury around 5 p.m. Wednesday after closing arguments, and a court official said around 7:30 p.m. that jurors had reached a verdict.
Bosworth is accused of election law violations that include being out of the country when her petitions to get on the ballot say she was gathering signatures. Bosworth, who lost the 2014 Republican U.S. Senate primary, has admitted she was abroad then.
Under state law, the person circulating petitions must witness the signings from registered voters. Bosworth’s defense has said she made a mistake by listening to advice from her former attorney.

Prosecutors have argued jurors should convict Bosworth to maintain the integrity of elections.
