Naturalization Ceremony Set At Mount Rushmore In Western SD

KEYSTONE, S.D. (AP) — Mount Rushmore National Memorial will serve as the backdrop Thursday when about 185 people become United States citizens.

Chief U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Viken will preside and be the keynote speaker at the naturalization ceremony that will take place in the amphitheater.

Viken has served as the chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota since January 2013. He previously worked as a federal public defender and was in private practice for 21 years.

Representatives of the federal court, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Marshals Service and the Department of Homeland Security will participate in the ceremony.

Pennington County Auditor Julie Pearson will be available for voter registration following the event.

The ceremony is sponsored by the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Society.
