Tornado Watch Issued For Parts Of Southeastern South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A tornado watch has been issued for a large portion of southeastern South Dakota.

The National Weather Service issued the watch Saturday afternoon. It’s in effect until 9 p.m. Central Time.

Meteorologist Philip Schumacher says they’re expecting thunder storms to develop and rapidly become severe Saturday evening. He says storms could include large hail, damaging winds and possibly some tornadoes in the region.

The watch extends from Huron in the north to Vermillion in the south; and from Chamberlain east to the Minnesota border. It also includes central and eastern Nebraska, the northwest corner of Iowa and far western Minnesota.

Schumacher says residents should be aware of the sky, if they’re outdoors. If warning sirens are issued, take shelter.
