Former US Senate Candidate Annette Bosworth To Be Sentenced

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Former South Dakota U.S. Senate candidate Annette Bosworth is being sentenced for the election law violations a jury convicted her of in May.

Bosworth’s hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

A jury found her guilty of six counts each of perjury and filing false documents. Bosworth says she’s praying the judge throws out her conviction.

Bosworth also says she plans to appeal.

The charges stemmed from mishandling her candidate petitions for the 2014 Republican Senate primary.

Bosworth, who has been a physician in Sioux Falls, faces a maximum punishment of 24 years in prison and $48,000 in fines.

Attorney General Marty Jackley has said prosecutors will review mitigating and aggravating circumstances when making a sentencing recommendation.
