Board Of Regents To Evaluate Direction Of University Centers

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The state Board of Regents is reevaluating how it offers instruction in three South Dakota cities that don’t have access to a comprehensive public university campus.

The board on Tuesday is set to discuss what the future may hold for the state’s three university satellite centers in Rapid City, Pierre and Sioux Falls.

A report prepared for the board says that disruptions in higher education from forces such as new course providers and technologies are happening alongside declining enrollment at the university centers.

The overall student headcount decreased by about 12 percent from fall 2008 to fall 2014.

The regents could consider options such as evaluating different pricing at university centers and developing management structures that may help increase enrollment.
