The American News ( ) reports 33-year-old John Hemminger’s furlough request was denied Wednesday. Hemminger is charged with premediated murder in the death of 26-year-old Jessica Goebel, who was stabbed in early January and died five days later.

Hemminger’s brother-in-law Rick Olauson had said he would supervise him and report him to law enforcement if he left his sight. Olauson said Hemminger’s mother was in a car accident July 30, and defense attorney Tom Cogley said she could be in “her last days.”

Cogley also proposed Hemminger be taken to jail in Rapid City for the visit. The judge denied that request, saying he didn’t want to put officers at risk.
