SGA inducts four new senators
Four students were sworn in to the Student Government Association Senate on Tuesday.
First-years Marcus Ireland and Maria Brady, and juniors Michelle Novak and Logan Bullard filled the Senate’s first-year and at large seats, respectively.
SGA President Sami Zoss said she’s excited for a new perspective from the new senators.
“My favorite part about having new people on SGA is the new perspectives they bring,” Zoss said. “We all get a little complacent on how the group runs. They bring a new perspective on ways we can be more transparent, more inclusive to the body, stuff like that.”
The inductees are excited to begin their career at SGA.
“I’m excited to see how everything works,” Ireland said. “Being a first-year, I’m still kind of in the dark on a lot of things so I’m excited to see it all unfold in front of me from this perspective.”
The new senators are also ready to bring their voice and ideas to the table.
“I’m just hoping to bring to the table a different voice that isn’t on SGA right now and to represent as much as possible of USD,” Novak said.
SGA has several plans to help integrate all new senators into SGA.
“We do meetings with the new members,” Zoss said. “The staff also tries to make themselves as available as possible to help the new members. We are also looking into possibly pairing our first-year seats with a senior member on the senate, that way they can ask questions during a meeting instead of after.”
Students that were selected to join SGA were among 10 other first-year applicants and four at-large applicants.
