Defendants Still Protesting Convictions In Wind Farm Fraud

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Two defendants who pleaded guilty in 2013 of defrauding investors by promoting investment in nonexistent wind farms in Wyoming and South Dakota continue to seek to overturn their convictions.

Lauren Elizabeth Scott, of Morgan, Utah, is serving a prison sentence of nearly five years on her guilty pleas to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.

Scott filed a federal lawsuit this month claiming federal officials trumped up the charges against her solely to try to seize her assets. Federal prosecutors want the lawsuit thrown out.

Scott’s brother, Robert Arthur Reed, also continues to push appeals of his 12-year federal prison sentence.

Federal prosecutors say investors lost more than $4.4 million in the scam. They have argued against overturning the sentences Scott and Reed received.
