Family Of Student Suing School District Over Welding Injury
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The family of a student who says their son has suffered permanent vision loss because of a school welding exercise is suing the Sioux Falls School District.
Eighteen-year-old William Herrera Estrada tells the Argus leader ( ) that he wants other students to be safe.
The lawsuit says that a bright light during a 2012 welding exercise made Estrada feel a burning sensation in his eyes. It says Estrada’s teacher told him the feeling was normal and that it would fade away.
Estrada didn’t seek medical attention. At an eye appointment in 2014, Estrada says he was told there was a scar on his right eye.
