Memorial Ceremony Held In South Dakota For Ex-Gov. Miller
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is among the speakers who have eulogized former Gov. Walter Dale Miller during a memorial ceremony being held at the state Capitol in Pierre.
The ceremony Monday followed a public viewing at the Capitol.
Miller died Sept. 28 at age 89. In 1993, he stepped in as the state’s leader after a plane crash killed his predecessor, Gov. George Mickelson. Miller served as the state’s 29th governor through 1995.
Daugaard says Miller was “the right man at the right time,” as he took the oath of office as governor during a period of sadness and loss. Daugaard says “the seasoned, steady cowboy, Walter Dale Miller, was cool in a time of crisis.
