State Historical Society Museum Director Receives Award

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota State Historical Society museum director has received an award from the Mountain Plains Museums Association for his service.

The historical society says Jay Smith received the President’s Award earlier this week.

The association performs services to museums in a 10-state area. The President’s Award is granted for substantial service to the organization.

Smith says he’s “deeply honored” to receive the award from an organization that supports museums across the region.

Smith has served as museum director at the State Historical Society since 2012.
