State Lawmakers Tour Pot Farm On Flandreau Reservation

FLANDREAU, S.D. (AP) — Five South Dakota lawmakers have toured the indoor pot farm that will supply the main attraction of the nation’s first marijuana resort being built on the land of the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe in South Dakota.

The tour Friday included a discussion in which tribal leaders answered questions from lawmakers. Most of the questions dealt with the steps the tribe is taking to ensure that marijuana does not leak into the rest of the state, where its consumption and possession remains illegal.

Republican state Rep. Elizabeth May says the tour was very helpful. She says that after seeing the security measures of the growing facility, she believes marijuana will not leave the reservation.

She says she would be “very surprised if you see any kind of crime increasing.”
