Dancing and turkey-chili is a winning combination for winter months

Vermillion is playing tea-party with the weather.

One day it’s sunny and beautiful outside and the next, well, it’s not pleasant.

I should be used to South Dakota by now, I’ve lived here my whole life.

Still, every winter season I think there is a small part of me that hopes things will be different. I’m usually wrong, but last winter was not all that bad (knock on wood).

Thankfully, there are ways to make the bitter temperatures seem less agonizing. Besides staying inside and feeling sorry for ourselves we can make some soup.

It shouldn’t be hard to find them either. I’ve already noticed a few places in the MUC that offer soups and other warm beverages to comfort the soul. There’s enough soup to get everyone through the rest of the semester.

Personally, I have a favorite soup that I make every year, and that is turkey-chili. It is filled with protein, fiber and tons of deliciousness that just doesn’t stop.

Another great thing about chili is you can make it vegetarian or even vegan-friendly and still get really full. I recommend looking up a turkey-chili recipe and making it as soon as possible. Check out food.com or allrecipes.com for some good ideas. Don’t hate winter, eat chili.

Another way to grasp a moment of happiness in the approaching gloom is to hit up a Zumba class.

If I don’t know what I want to do at the Wellness Center, Zumba is always an excellent choice. You can forget the troubles of the dreary prairies and dance to some really fun music.

Plus, there’s no better way to improve the spirit than to go to the Wellness Center and work out.

I’d like to give some advice to everyone for the upcoming weeks. Don’t be afraid, together we shall join and face winter without any fear. We will eat delicious chili and walk more quickly to class.
