Eichkorn earns spot in cross country nationals
Senior Amber Eichkorn did it again this past Friday, qualifying for her second straight Division I cross country national meet.
The Midwest Regional meet was hosted in Lawrence, Kansas, this year at Rim Rock Farms.
The race kicked off at noon, and Eichkorn didn’t wait for a second to solidify herself as one of the top runner’s in the region.
Leading the first mile with North Dakota State’s Summit League Champion Erin Teschuk right on her back, she came through the mile with a time of 5:21.
Hitting the 3,000-meter mark with 11:20 on the clock, Eichkorn continued to lead.
Although Eichkorn began to fall off a bit in the second half of the race, she managed to still finish in the top 10. Eichkorn crossed the finish line with 20:32 on the clock, coming in eighth place.
Teschuk who’s ranked seventh in the nation, improved her second place finish from last year and won the race, with a time of 20:07. Both Eichkorn and Teschuk will have a last chance to duke it out this Saturday in Louisville at the national meet.
