Women’s basketball falls to Washington 77-64
The Coyotes came up short after looking for their seventh straight win Saturday night as they took on Washington and fell to the Huskies 77-64.
“It’s a tough loss. It’s a little disappointing because I feel we didn’t play Coyote basketball,” said head coach Amy Williams. “We got a little outside of ourselves a part of that is a credit to Washington. They have some great players and we were trying a little too hard.”
USD started off the first quarter strong with a 19-0 run and held Washington to 12 points. After the half the Coyotes were still up 33-28.
For the Huskies, Talia Walton led the team with 13 points followed by junior Kelsey Plum with 9 points.
Meanwhile, the Coyotes’ senior guard Tia Hemiller led the team with 13 points and four rebounds. Junior guard Jasmine Trimboli added seven points to the score and senior guard Nicole Seekamp had four rebounds.
The second half was a different story as the Huskies went on a 14-0 run.
“We had six assists and 12 turnovers and that certainly is not anywhere near acceptable for our team and we were out rebounded I think for the first time this season,” Williams said.
The Coyotes drop to 6-4 with the loss to Washington. USD hosts Dakota Wesleyan on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
