Coyote women defeat IUPUI 65-59
After trailing by three at halftime, the Coyotes stormed back against Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in the second half with a big contribution from senior guard Nicole Seekamp. The 65-59 win increases their winning streak to five games.
It was an ice cold first half for the Coyotes from the field. USD shot just 17 percent from three point range and 36 percent from the field. IUPUI took advantage of the Coyotes struggles, shooting 67 percent from three point range in the first half but only managing to take a three point lead into the halftime break.
The second half came out all Coyotes, as USD outscored the Jaguars 40-31 en route to the win. The Coyotes were able to raise their shooting percentage to 47 percent from the field but again shot just 17 percent from beyond the arc.
Seekamp was the overall leading scorer on the night with 24 points. She also added five assists and five steals to her total. Two Coyote guards came in second on the team in scoring with nine, senior Tia Hemiller and junior Jasmine Trimboli. Hemiller also grabbed six rebounds and Trimboli grabbed five.
IUPUI’s junior center Mikale Rogers led the way for the Jaguars with 17 points and six rebounds. Jaguar junior guard Kelsi Byrd also had a strong night, totaling 10 points and four assists.
With the win the Coyotes improve to 15-5 on the season and 6-1 in the Summit League. IUPUI falls to 13-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play. The Coyotes are next in action Wednesday in Macomb, Ill to take on Western Illinois. Tip off time is 7 p.m.
