Coyote women blow out Fort Wayne 92-60

The USD women dominated in the DakotaDome once again Thursday night, blowing out Fort Wayne 92-60.

After a 20 point Coyote halftime lead was shrunk to nine in the third quarter, the Coyote women went on a 13-0 run to close out the third.

The fourth quarter was all Coyote as well, with USD outscoring Fort Wayne 24-14 to end the game with a commanding 92-60 win.

December’s Summit League Player of the Month Coyote senior guard Nicole Seekamp had a commanding performance with 19 points, five assists and two steals. Seekamp went 7-12 from the field and 3-4 from three point range.

With her performance, Seekamp is now number two on the USD all-time scoring list.

Fellow Coyote senior guards Kelly Stewart and Tia Hemiller also had strong performances. Both scored 11 points, with Hemiller adding six assists and Stewart grabbing six boards to help propel the Coyotes to the win.

USD shot a strong 53.1 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from three point range. Fort Wayne also had a strong shooting night, shooting 58.8 percent from three point range for the game and 71.4 percent from three in the second half.

Fort Wayne’s senior guard Courtney Ogle had a strong game for the Mastodons. Ogle accounted for a team high of 15 points off the bench, shooting 5-6 from three point range.

Three Mastodons tied for the second highest in scoring, sophomore forward Keanna Gary, senior guard Kamilah Carter and junior guard Rachel Rinehart each scored 11 points. Carter also pulled down five rebounds, while Rinehart had five assists.

The strong efforts were not enough however, as Fort Wayne fell to 4-15 on the season and 0-6 in Summit League play.

With the win, the Coyotes improve to 14-5 on the season and to 5-1 in the Summit League.

The women will again be in action this Saturday against IUPUI in the DakotaDome at 1:30 p.m. This is the first game of a double header with the Coyote men.
