Coyotes fall on the road against Denver
In the first leg of a two game road trip, the Coyotes were unable to handle Denver and the Princeton offense losing 52-66 and never leading in the game.
Denver got out ahead early and did not look back. The Pioneers led 30-22 at halftime.
It was a rough night for the Coyotes from three point arc. USD shot just 15 percent from beyond the arc. Coyote guard sophomore D.J. Davis lead USD in scoring with 12 ponts. He was the only Coyote in double figures for scoring. Senior guard Casey Kasperbauer was second in scoring with nine points. He had one of the two USD three pointers made on the night. USD had a tough time moving the ball, only registering eight assists as a team.
Denver excelled at sharing the ball. Four of the five starters scored double digits, freshman guard Thomas Neff lead the way with 16 points as well as five rebounds. Senior forward Marcus Byrd also had a big night for the Pioneers. Byrd scored 14 points, grabbed seven boards and blocked three shots to help Denver secure the win.
With the loss the Coyotes fall to 10-12 and 2-6 in the Summit League. With the win the Pioneers are lifted above .500 to 11-10 and sit at 3-5 in Summit League play. The loss pushes the Coyotes down to eighth place out of nine teams in the Summit League. USD is next in action on Saturday, Jan. 30 in Omaha as they take on UNO. Tipoff time is set for 7:00 p.m.
