North Dakota takes down USD in double overtime
After a scoreless back and forth for regulation and one overtime period, a single shot eight minutes into a second overtime brought a hard-fought match between the Coyotes and the University of North Dakota to a close today.
Despite getting off six shots in the first half, including a hard hit from senior Corey Strang that clanged off of the crossbar, the Coyotes failed to slip anything past UND’s keeper. The second half saw UND take the offense, taking eight shots to USD’s five. Sophomore Katie Moller hit two shots off the crossbar and one to USD keeper, junior Sydney Hardin, in the span of three minutes.
During the first overtime period, UND fail to put a shot on frame, but the Coyotes were unable to take advantage as both of their shots were saved by UND. Strang’s shot early in the second overtime was saved by UND and the Coyotes were unable to capitalize on a corner kick minutes before the winning shot from UND first-year Karleen Yapello.
The loss drops the Coyotes to 1-1-0 on the year. They will wrap up the month of August with a trip to California next weekend to take on University of California-Riverside and California State University, Northridge.
