Coyotes defeat NDSU to end 10 game skid
USD soccer came out guns blazing to open the weekend of Dakota Days sporting events. The Coyote offense seemed to find their groove as they defeated the defending Summit League champs, the North Dakota State Bison, 4-0.
The Coyotes opened the scoring in the 35th minute. Sophomore forward Sammie Villwock was able to put in a shot off of a corner kick to put USD up 1-0. Villwock was not done yet. She scored again in the 38th minute to notch her third goal of the season and put the Coyotes up 2-0.
It was more of the same in the second half for USD. Senior midfielder Brooke Watson scored in the 54th minute to give USD a three goal lead. Freshman forward Taryn LaBree would deliver the final blow to the Bison in the 69th minute. She put a nice move on the defender before putting her shot into the back of the net to make it 4-0 USD.
Despite the gap in scoring, it wasn’t for lack of trying. Both USD and NDSU had 10 total shots, while the Coyotes put six on frame to the Bison’s five. NDSU also had five corner kicks to USD’s three.
With the win USD moves to 2-11-1 on the season and 1-2 in Summit League play. The Coyotes now travel to Denver to take on the Pioneers on Sunday at 1 p.m.
