USD sees enrollment increase

There are 10,261 students enrolled in USD this fall, a 2.2 percent increase from last year’s 10,038
students.

The university has seen one of the biggest increases in students from Iowa, which had a 9.2 percent increase. Scott Pohlson, vice president for enrollment, marketing & university relations, said this was due to offering in-state tuition to Iowans.

“It certainly feels good,” he said.

USD was second in the state for highest enrollment increase.

“This is the first time as long as I’ve been here in seven years that we’ve been on top,” he said.

Pohlson said campus improvements and creating stronger athletic programs helped with enrollment numbers.

“Making our campus better and better athletics really made a difference,” he said. “Certainly, this year feels good. We’ve reversed downward trends.”

Pohlson said the whole campus should be excited.

“We should be proud,” he said. “It takes a whole campus to increase
enrollment.”
