Nylund wins singles at Gopher Invitational

Junior Nanette Nylund remains undefeated, winning all three of her matches at the University of Minnesota’s Gopher Invitational last weekend.

Nylund went 3-0 in the flight G singles as she secured her wins over North Dakota’s Alex Revenig (6-4, 7-5), Northern Iowa’s Olivia Fain (6-3, 4-6, 6-1), and Iowa State’s Karen Alvarez (2-6, 6-2, 6-2).

The rest of the Coyotes also had victories scattered throughout the weekend.

USD’s Laura Janicková defeated Nebraska’s Elizabeth Gould (6-1, 6-0) and Northern Iowa’s Daisy Phillips(6-0, 6-0), until she fell to Nebraska’s Marina Coznac (7-6, 6-3) in the F flight.

Junior Luana Stanciu had wins in her singles flight H, beating North Dakota’s Jaylee Yasunaga (6-3, 6-2) and Northern Iowa’s Morganne Borsh (6-0, 6-2), before also losing her final match to Iowa State’s Savannah Williams (5-7, 6-2, 6-4).

Jana Lazarevic, Habiba Aly, Emma Tranberg, and Natka Kmosková, went 1-2 in their singles flights.

Doubles team Kmosková/Lazarevic took down both Drake’s Neville/Walczak and Iowa State’s Grib/Espindola in a 6-2 victory.

The Coyotes compete again at the Creighton Invitational in Omaha, Neb. Sept. 28 and 29.
