Women’s golf tops field at Loyola Fall Invitational

USD women’s golf team brought home their first tournament victory since 2014, winning the Loyola Fall Invitational at Flossmoor Country Club by 28 strokes on Tuesday.

The Coyotes tallied 912 strokes (+48) over three rounds, recording consistent scores of 304, 305 and 303. Drake and Loyola totaled 940 shots (+76) each to tie for second place.

Freshman Megan Munneke was the top finisher for USD at second place, falling one stroke short of Loyola’s  Elayna Bowser with a 7-over-par, 223.

Behind Munneke was senior Lexi Petersen, who finished with 226 strokes (+10) and led the field with eight birdies for the tournament. Munneke’s 35 pars were the second most.

Jennifer Vincent took advantage of a strong final round to move up from 10th to seventh. She totaled 232 strokes and had back-to-back 75s in the second and third rounds. Rounding out the top ten was freshman Laerke Jensen, who finished with 236 strokes (+20).

Junior Katie Bartlett tied for 18th with 239 shots (+23) and freshman Elizabeth Duncan played as an individual and tied for 52nd with 253 shots (+37).

The Coyote’s next tournament is the Creighton Classic in Omaha, Neb. The event will begin on October 1.
