Erbert and Gerbert’s hosts ‘Howling Hammer’ sandwich contest
Students will get the chance to showcase their culinary creativity in Erbert and Gerbert’s sandwich contest at USD.
Erbert and Gerbert’s contest has students creating a unique sandwich that will be named the ‘Howling Hammer’ and will only be available on USD’s campus location.
When Marcus Destin, a junior communication major, came up with the name ‘Howling Hammer’ he wanted something that would evoke emotion and “pack a punch.”
“I just wanted something that was both aggressive, fulfilling and had mad alliteration,” Destin said. “We want the Howling Hammer to be the go-to for students and the Vermillion community. When students vote we want them to create a timeless sandwich that matches the name.”
After the name of the sandwich was decided, the next step was to get the USD community to send in their sandwich recipes. The submission link is still open but will close on Sep. 22 and the top three submissions will be voted on starting Oct. 7.
Stacy Kauer, an Aramark employee, said that they’ve only had six sandwich recipes so far. In an email interview, Kauer also said the price of the new sandwich hasn’t yet been determined.
“We do not know the pricing yet, as it is dependent on what ends up being on the sandwich,” Kauer said.
The winning recipe will be revealed on Nov. 11 and the sandwich will be permanently on the USD Erbert and Gerbert’s menu.
