Fuchs leads Coyotes to only gold in Kansas

Freshman swimmer Cooper Fuchs secured the only individual victory for the Coyotes at the Kansas Tri-Duels in Lawrence, Kansas Friday and Saturday/

Fuchs’ captured his individual medal in the 50 freestyle, finishing with a time of 21.37. He also won the 200 free and 400 free relays, teaming with freshman trio Zachary Kopp, Jake Leichner and Charlie Bean in 1:24.99 and 3:08.31, respectively.

Bean, one of seven Coyotes over the weekend to take second, snatched silver in the 100 free in 47.38.The others included Leichner in the 200 breast, senior Josh Sorbe in the 400 IM, freshmen Cory Jacocks in the 500 free and Stephen Johnson in the 100 fly, sophomore Ben Kopp in the 200 back and junior Seth O’Dea in the three-meter board.

The team of Leichner, Bean, sophomore Wyatt Thompson and freshman Jacob Won took first runner-up in the 800 free relay at 7:03.83.

The freshman quartet of Taylor Rau, Jordyn Schnell, Emily Johnson and Meghan Atwell led the women’s side as they took third in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:38.91. Rau also secured a pair of individual third places in the 200 breast (2:29.53) and the 100 breast (1:07.17).

USD will compete next at the Fargo Tri-Duels on Oct. 18-19.
