Women’s Tennis Downs Kansas City

The South Dakota’s Women’s Tennis team earned a victory on the road. The Coyotes defeated University of Kansas City 6-1 on Saturday, March 22 in Kansas City at the Plaza Tennis Center. 

In the first singles match of the day, Coyote freshman Katrina Curcic defeated Adella Castaner in straight sets. Curcic won the first set 6-2 before closing out the second set 6-3. 

Senior Bea Havlickova earned another 2-0 win after sweeping UMKC’s Joana Miralles. It was Havlickova’s 63rd career victory at USD and her 15th of the season. Amanda de Oliveira, Selena Bird and Grace Chadick also won their respective singles matches.

In doubles play, the Coyotes won two out of the three matches. Sophomore Sorcha Caves and de Oliveira teamed up for a 6-2 win, while Bird and Curcic earned a 6-3 victory to help secure the 6-1 overall match result.

This marked South Dakota’s eighth win overall and first in conference play, while UMKC fell to 6-8 overall. The Coyotes are now 1-1 in conference play. 

South Dakota will next host Oral Roberts for their first home meet of the season. The match is scheduled for Friday, March 28, in Vermillion at the USD tennis courts.
