Coyote Football Prepares for Spring Season; Family day on the Horizon
With spring football underway, the University of South Dakota’s football team has finalized its spring schedule as preparations continue for the upcoming fall season.
The Coyotes officially began practice on March 12 and will hold a total of 15 sessions throughout March and April. All practices are closed to the public.
Quarterbacks coach and Co-Offensive Coordinator Matt Vitzhum said the group has taken the right approach this spring, compared to past seasons.
“The quarterbacks have brought an attention to detail and a mentality to grow to each practice, meeting and workout. I’ve been impressed with their eagerness to learn and grow. They come in every day with a mind set to grow, no excuses” Vitzhum said.
Aidan Bouman returns to lead the group and the team for his final year of eligibility. “He’s a true professional, first one in and last out and a student of the game. I could not be more excited to have him back this upcoming season.” Vitzhum said.
As part of its spring programming, South Dakota will host Coyote Football Family Day, an event open to the public and free of charge. It is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on April 12 and includes a variety of activities for fans of all ages.
The event will feature a 7-on-7 session and individual skills competitions, followed by a youth football clinic led by Coyote players. The clinic is open to children in kindergarten through the eighth grade. Family Day will wrap up with an autograph session, giving fans the opportunity to meet players on the team.
It was also announced that two players, linebacker Garry Bryant III and tackle Joe Cotton, have entered the transfer portal and will pursue opportunities at other programs. Both noted their departure on X, formally known as Twitter and will not be seen on the field on April 12.
After the upcoming spring programming, the Coyotes won’t play on the field until the fall season. The Coyotes open the 2025 season on Aug. 30 against the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames, Iowa.
