Coyotes Sweep Jackrabbits in Home Meet

South Dakota Coyotes Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams took care of business on Jan. 24 vs South Dakota State in Vermillion. This was the first time that the Jackrabbits and Coyotes had faced off in the new Natatorium. 

On the men’s side, USD won 200-98 as a team. Sophomore Alex Parinkson won three events on his own, including 500m and 1000m freestyle. 

Another Sophomore, Nick Rounds, took first place in 50m freestyle and the 100m butterfly.

Junior Joaquin Contreras-Fallico also picked up two wins of his own in the 100m and 200m backstroke races.

On the women’s side, junior Gabbie Ahrendt placed first in two races. Senior Taylor Burh and freshman Dawsyn Green also walked away with multiple wins. 

Overall, South Dakota won 26 events over the course of the meet evenly between both sides. Along with these race wins, the Coyotes also won four diving events. Senior Mady Schmidt won the one meter dive and the three dive.

The women’s team won 188.5 to 110.5 over the Jackrabbits.

The victory on the men’s side is the first for the Coyotes over SDSU since January of 2021. The Coyotes’ next meet will be the annual Coyote Invite on Jan. 30-31 in Vermillion.
