Galentine’s Day Comes to the Bean

This Feb. 14, along with Valentine’s Day, downtown Vermillion is celebrating Galentine’s Day. The Bean is hosting an event on Feb. 14 from 10 a.m to 12 p.m.

Set up by the Vermillion Library,  this will be a paint-by-numbers event where attendees are supplied with guided canvases that allow them to paint a variety of lush landscapes or flowers.

Alongside painting, the celebration will also have catered snacks and discounted drinks for all those who attend. To join, guests were required to sign up beforehand, but as of now, it is completely booked. However, similar events are set to take place in the future.

Shelly Fessler, the adult services specialist for the Vermillion Public Library, said that this upcoming celebration is the third of these events hosted so far since beginning during the summer.

“We’ve had a lot of people show up each time so far, so we plan to keep doing them for as long as we can,” Fessler said. “We’re expecting a sizable turnout this time around, which is just wonderful to see.”

As of now, all adult events set up by the library so far have been paint-by-numbers, but there is potential in the future for these activities to change. A date for a future activity has not yet been released, but it has been ensured that another will take place this spring season.

Galentine’s Day is a holiday that originated from the television series, “Parks and Recreation,” with the idea that it is a day that celebrates female friendship and empowerment. It has since left the shadow of its origins and has become a popular day where countless different people, organizations, and businesses host events that celebrate the message behind this day.
